Five Different Ways To Treat Acne

At some point of time we all face a stage where we want to get rid of all of our acne problems and get completely free from acne. Below are some of the natural and other acne treatments that have been proven to be effective.

A. Witch Hazel Astringent

This astringent comes from the plant which has the same name .It can be found in a wide range of areas from Nova Scotia in Canada to Texas and Florida. To extract this astringent , you just have to simply steam the twigs of this plant . Remember to cool it though. What is good about this is that it occurs naturally and even the process it has undergone is all natural. You can be assured it is less harsh compared with commercially-produced astringents.

B. Commercially Produced Astringents

Astringents which are produced commercially are also very effective . There are lots of variants to choose from which has additional ingredients that helps in cleaning the skin.

The only downside is it can be a little harsh due to the chemicals added to produce this formula. Always use them with extra care to prevent the skin from drying.

C. All-Natural Treatments

Not many of us are aware that kitchen and acne are the two enemies. Scout your kitchen for stuffs like lemons and oranges, raw potatoes and fresh garlic.

- Oranges and lemons just need to be squeezed on cotton balls. The extract you get has to be applied on the affected areas and then wash it after about 20-25 minutes.

- It is very easy to use fresh garlic. You just need to remove its peeling and then rub it on the affected areas on your face.

- Its pretty much easy to use raw potaotoes too . Just peel them and rub its flat surface on the face. These natural extracts can be very helpful in minimizing the redness of the skin and also can clean the skin.

D. Oral Antibiotics

For severe cases, antibiotics are prescribed. These medications are orally taken to reduce the amount of bacteria inside and around skin follicles. They also decrease the exasperating chemicals that the white blood cells produce. Antibiotics also creates an anti-inflammatory action by reducing the concentration of fatty acids found in the sebum. Always consult your dermatologist for the right antibiotic medication and dosage.

Tetracycline is still the most commonly prescribed antibiotic for acne treatment. It is important to note that most of this antibiotic should ba taken empty stomach to avoid any side-effects. Also pregnant women and children below 9 should avoid this antibiotic.

The initial dose is 500 mg which is to be taken two times a day and then to continue till prescribed by the skin specialist or until any drop off of lesions are visible.

For pregnant women Erythromycin can be prescribed which comes to be the second choice . But there are some side-effects too which are seen to be common with this antibiotic and that is nausea and upset stomach. Unlike Tetracycline which can kill only common bacteria , Erythromycin has the properties of both killing bacteria as well as anti-inflammatory. Another difference is that this antibiotic should be taken after meals. You should discuss other antibiotics also with your doctor and then choose the right one which is suitable for you depending on their merits and demerits.

E. Topical Treatments
Last but not the least , there are creams which are externally applied and are proven to be effective for acne treatment . However , it may result in drying the skin but it is also said to be the most effective treatment for the chronic acne. Benzoyl peroxide is a well known topical treatment for acne.
